Spot’s Rainy Day by Eric Hill

Spot’s Rainy Day by Eric Hill is one of my kids’ favorite books. It’s a Play-a-Sound book so kids can have fun pressing squares which make the following sounds: a dog’s laughter; raindrops; the tweeting of a bird; the meowing of a cat; the ringing of a bell; the croaking of a frog; and the quacking of a duck.

Haluhalo Espesyal by Yvette Ferreol

One of my daughter’s favorite books is Haluhalo Espesyal (Haluhalo Special) by Yvette Ferreol, with illustrations by Jill Arwen Posadas. The story is about Jackie, a young girl who gets sick and is nursed back to health by the delicious food from her Lola Itang’s kitchen.

Uuwi na ang Nanay kong si Darna translates to My Mother Darna is Coming Home. It was written by Edgar Samar and illustrated by Russell Molina. It won the Grand Prize in the 2002 PBBY Salanga Writers’ Prize.

The Magic of Apo Mayor, written by Grace D. Chong and illustrated by Beth Parrocha-Doctolero won the First Prize in the Palanca Awards in 2001, in the short story for children category. It is about Apo Mayor, an old man, who has significant influence in a place called Umingan.
